A Deliveroo rider took to Facebook to write about the appalling treatment he allegedly received at the hands of a resident living in a condominium complex along Oxley Road last Saturday night.
According to the food deliveryman, he had been settling an order at Oxley Residence when a random resident confronted him with vulgar language for “speeding in the condo compound”. When the rider tried to ignore him (he claims that he was not speeding at all), the man allegedly picked up the rider’s thermal delivery bag — containing his phone, his portable charger, and other belongings — and tossed it in the air.
“I was mad, we started arguing,” said the Deliveroo rider. “He then told me to pick the bag myself if I want it.”
When he checked on the bag, he found that his phone’s screen was cracked and his portable charger got damaged as well, he said. A taxi arrived into the compound, and the resident passed his kids (who were with him) to its passenger, presumed to be his wife. According to the rider, the man then dared him to beat him up. “I did not touch him and called the police,” said the Deliveroo employee, adding that there is CCTV footage of the incident.
Unfortunately, the police informed him that the matter was out of their hands and advised him to file a civil suit against the man. But the hassle of hiring a lawyer to take the man to court might be costly, and let’s be honest, a person living in such an expensive area will be well-heeled enough to drag the case to oblivion.
“I was so disappointed because I know I did not do anything wrong and now I have to spend time and money to find a lawyer and repair the damages done just because the guy (with speed cam eyes) just feel that I was speeding and harassed me,” concluded the Deliveroo rider.
