It’s gotten harder for Geylang regulars to get their alcohol fix lately — several of their favourite kopitiams have lost their right to sell beer due to various reasons, including selling beyond permitted hours and offering alcoholic drinks other than beer without permission.
Channel NewsAsia reports that significant losses in earnings from the licence revocations have already pushed several coffeeshops to close down.
Owners running the remaining coffeeshops along Geylang are urgently seeking ways to get their licence back, which can be done by appealing to the police. Some of them are even attending classes on how to handle their unruly drunken customers, which may have been one of the reasons they got investigated in the first place.
