Online sexual service syndicate shut down, 24 suspects arrested

An island-wide vice bust has left 24 suspects — six men and 18 women aged between 19 and 64 — arrested for their involvement in a syndicate that advertised sexual services online.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department launched operations across Singapore in places including Geylang, Hougang, Bishan and Jurong West on March 3, resulting in the arrests and confiscation of cash amounting to $270,000, as well as an array of computers and handphones.

Four of the suspects — a 21-year-old woman and three men aged between 27 and 51 — will be charged in court today for offences under the Women’s Charter. Under the Charter, any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person is liable on conviction to a jail term of up to five years and a maximum fine of $10,000.

Investigations against the remaining suspects are ongoing.
