Online predator and serial rapist gets 37 1/2 years plus 24 strokes

The long arm of the law finally caught up with convicted serial rapist 44-year-old Azuar Ahamad, who was charged for sexually assaulting and drugging 22 women aged between 18 and 41, in 2008 and 2009.

Azuar was sentenced yesterday to 37-and-a-half years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane by High Court judge Chan Seng Onn, who had Azuar’s jail time backdated to the commencement of the period of his remand (May 16, 2009), TODAY reports.

Azuar will be 65 by the time he is released.

The former logistics executive lured his victims under the guise of anonymity with Facebook’s dating application SpeedDate. After gaining their trust, Azuar would get them to meet him in nightclubs.

Once in his sights, he would spike the women’s drinks with barbiturates and rape or molest them.
