An 18-year-old National University of Singapore (NUS) student died in hospital last Saturday morning after she was found unconscious at the foot of a residential hostel.
Locked out of her own room, she had been trying to enter her dorm on the seventh story of Block C of Sheares Hall by climbing out of a nearby window, The New Paper reported. Police were called to the premises in a case of fall from height around 11.40am that day.
It was only yesterday that NUS confirmed the incident with The New Paper, with a spokesman assuring that staff and counselors are in touch with the student’s family and friends for assistance.
Believed to be a first-year student from Korea, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after being conveyed to the National University Hospital (NUH), located nearby the college.
It is not known if the method of entering locked dorms through windows is common among students, but it is believed that the deceased had forgotten to bring her room key. Rooms at the residential halls are only accessible using matriculation cards, and students locked out of their own rooms might have service fees imposed to regain access to their residences.
