Gone are the days when you’ll have to drag yourself out of bed, kicking and screaming, and trudge over to the airport for your multiple-stop flight to Los Angeles, California. You won’t have to deal with multiple bumpy takeoffs and landings, nor will you have to struggle with your carry-on luggage and haul it down the aisle numerous times.
That’s because United Airlines has announced its soon-to-launch daily non-stop flights between Singapore and LA. It’s subject to government approval for now, but if all goes well, the 14,000km route will debut on Oct 27, and it will be the longest non-stop flight to or from the United States.
Operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, the flight from LA to Singapore will take about 18 hours, departing at 8:55pm (US time) and arriving at 6:50am (Singapore time) two days later. The return flight will take about 15 hours, departing Changi at 11am (Singapore time) and arriving at LA at 10:15am (US time) the same day.
This also means the airline’s route from Hong Kong to Singapore will cease on Oct 27, and its route from Singapore to Hong Kong will terminate on Oct 28. United Airlines currently offers daily non-stop flights between Singapore and San Francisco.
But if you’re thinking you may not want to take the chance of being unceremoniously bumped from your flight, Singapore Airlines also flies direct from Singapore to San Francisco, and it’s got plans in the pipeline to re-introduce its Singapore to Los Angeles route in 2018.
