It’s official — punch out the last few paper parking coupons you have, ’cause the new Parking.sg app has finally landed islandwide. Launched yesterday, the app allows drivers to pay their car parking fees at all 1,100 public car parks with just a couple of easy swipes.
All you have to do is enter your vehicle number, the car park code, and the duration of parking, then make payment with a credit or debit card. Fees are calculated on a per-minute basis.
Sounds convenient, for sure.
The handy app will also alert you when your parking session expires, and you won’t even have to make the trek back to your car to update the system — you can simply do it remotely.
Here’s how it works.
But take note: It’s limited to car drivers for now. Motorcyclists and heavy vehicle drivers will get to use it by the end of the year.
According to The Straits Times, Parking.sg made its debut on the Apple App Store and Google Play store slightly earlier on Friday, but only three out of 10 motorists interviewed had downloaded it. The rest preferred to finish using their leftover coupons first, while others said they would start using it when more have tried and tested it out. Many elderly drivers also told ST that they would only hop on the app when coupons were completely phased out.
So the effectiveness of the app remains to be seen.
As for those who think they can get away with free parking, authorities said that enforcement checks would still be carried out, reported TODAY.
