Now you can park your bicycles at an automated underground system… but only in Admiralty

Singapore has just launched its first fully automated underground bicycle parking system — but as great as it sounds, it’s only available in Admiralty. For now, anyway. The trial period offers users the opportunity to try out the SecureMyBike system for free this month at Kampung Admiralty, an integrated residential complex in the Woodlands area.

With the ability to park more than 500 bicycles in individual underground storage cells across three facilities, the system claims to offer benefits such as shelter from the rainy weather that’s been plaguing the skies recently, as well as prevention of bicycle theft and vandalism.

To give SecureMyBike a go, simply set up an account at the registration kiosks behind the facility and use the pin number sent to your mobile phone to deposit and retrieve your bicycle. When you enter your pin number at the parking kiosk, a door will open for you to push your bicycle into a cell, and the two-wheeler will then be moved into an underground cylindrical shaft.

After Jan 31, if you decide you’re a fan of the system, you can either choose to pay S$22 each month for unlimited usage or S$0.25 per hour from Feb 1 to Apr 30. Following that, the rates go up to S$48 per month or S$0.45 per hour.

No news yet on when the trial will end, but the Land Transport Authority will be reviewing the success of this system in Admiralty before deciding on introducing it to other neighborhoods.
