Oops, seems like presidential hopeful George Goh got mistaken for another George in a George-filled country.

George Goh Ching Wah, who is running to be Singapore’s next president, set the records straight today by debunking a screenshot circulating on Whatsapp that wrongly associated him with a George Goh Tiong Yong who was the Chairman of Kampong Ubi Citizens’ Consultative Committee (CCC).

“Remember, I’m George Goh Ching Wah 😀. Would really appreciate if you could help to share this info if you encounter untrue rumours about my identity,” the presidential hopeful’s statement read.

The image was from a media release in 2000 on the opening of the then-upgraded Kampong Ubi Community Centre.

Goh, who is an entrepreneur with ventures including bringing Harvey Norman into the city-state, has made it clear to the public via his active social media accounts and done-up website detailing his life that he never had any political affiliations.

“Mr George Goh Ching Wah was never a CCC member let alone chairman and has no political affiliations – past to present,” the statement read.

Yesterday was the first day applications to be the president opened at the Elections Department office. Goh showed up to a cheering crowd and left shortly after, while a former secondary school teacher Seng Soon Kia, who is not as known to the public, walked in to apply as well.
