Not exactly a coffee drive-through: Taxi mounts pavement in front of Orchard Road Starbucks store

It was not really a coffee run nor a drive-through, but an accident in the early morning hours of Sunday that left a taxi mounting the pavement in front of a Starbucks store at the famous Orchard Road area.

Facebook user Sharom Salleh posted photos of the silver taxi stuck on the pavement in front of the Liat Towers Starbucks store on the Complaint Singapore Facebook group on Sunday, soon to be our new favorite group for indulging in Singaporeans’ favorite pastime: complain and complain.

His caption? “Going to the Starbucks in the morning is not that bad bro.”

We too concur but this is probably not the way to do it.

According to The Straits Times, police were alerted to the accident involving two taxis early Sunday morning where one man suffered minor injuries.

Fortunately, no major injuries were involved nor did the taxi driver steer right into the Starbucks store; the cab was seen in photos crashing into a bench on the pavement that prevented the cab from going forward even more.

Although we were very lucky today not to receive news about a taxi possibly crashing into a Starbucks store, commenters were quick to jump in on the situation as a whole with some, erm, choice words:

Despite the Starbucks store reopening to a new fancy design recently, Singaporeans will remember this Starbucks store for being host to another calamity that struck the fateful store in 2011: when flash floods caused the basement-level store to be, well, flooded and patrons were forced to evacuate the premises.

The next time you’re heading out of the house to drive, be sure to grab your coffee before you get on the car, not during.

Police are investigating the incident, Coconuts Singapore understands.
