Fare thee well, absurdly cheap one-way flights from Singapore to London. After launching budget flights between both cities (with fares starting from S$199) in September last year, Norwegian Air will cease the service next January.

The low-cost carrier has yet to issue an official statement, but Business Traveller found out that the last flight between Changi Airport and Gatwick Airport will take place on January 10 next year. Instead, Norwegian will be shifting their focus to an expansion in Latin America, with a new route from Gatwick to Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International Airport to be launched in Spring 2019. Just back in February, the airline launched a route between Gatwick to Buenos Aires.

The move seems to be a change of heart from what the airline committed to last year. “Our transatlantic flights have shown the huge demand for affordable long-haul travel, so we are delighted to expand into new markets and offer our first route to Asia from the UK,” noted Norwegian CEO Bjorn Kjos about their budget flights between Singapore to London.

The airline first commenced a four-time weekly non-stop service between Changi and Gatwick last September at prices way lesser than usual. Singapore-London fares start from S$199 for economy class, and premium class tickets start from S$839 — that includes all applicable fees and taxes.

Those who managed to fly on the longest low-cost flight in the world mentioned that the service was decent enough, and offers very good value for money. Legroom in economy class is pretty cramped, as expected.

Speaking to The Straits Times, the Changi Airport Group expressed that it was open to having Norwegian’s service resume at a later date.
