The non-fan guide to enjoying the 2013 F1 Night Race

It’s impossible to get around the CBD, staycations cost an arm and a leg and suddenly, everyone’s posting photos of colourful lanyards on Facebook… Heck, we can even smell the burning tarmac. Yup, F1 is back, and if you’re not a fan, the nightmare is about to begin… or maybe not. We’ve found a way (six ways, actually) you can have the time of your life and be part of the festivities at the same time:

Go loud with the music fandoms

Can’t keep up with the races? Don’t feel left out — join other fandoms! BIGBANG, Justin Bieber and Rihanna have some of the craziest fans in the world so if you desperately need to let your hair down, the Padang is where you should go.

Catch the circus

If you’ve got access to Zone 1, go to the Trispan Lifestyle Area and watch Cirque Surreal (Sept 21-22) the UK’s Night Circus (Sept 20-21) and Masquerade (Sept 20-22) for some amazing circus theatre complete with fire trickery and aerial performances. Also don’t miss Chaos, an outdoor theatre spectacular showing at the Padang on Sept 21-22.

Attend chi-chi parties

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”20921″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”366″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

If you’re more high fashion than full speed and can afford to blow $900-$30,000 on a night of air-kissing and premium Champagne guzzling, get an individual pass or an entire table (Jeroboam bottle of bubbly included) at Amber Lounge (location: Temasek Reflections). On a budget? The Podium Lounge party at Ritz Carlton is another great party option— tickets are on sale for $138-458.

Get dizzy

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”20922″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”450″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

Always wanted to ride on the Singapore Flyer? Zone 1 and 2 patrons get unlimited rides on race weekend. That’s a bird’s eye view of the goings-on without the noise, people — get on it.

Stuff your face

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”20923″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”450″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

59 food and beverage outlets will be hawking their stuff across the Circuit Park. Depending on the access limitations on your pass, you can either visit the Hawker Village in Zone 4 for food from restaurants like Al Dente, Barossa, Go India Express, Peach Garden and Shiraz, or have seafood dishes such as Tung Lok’s chili crab claw with mantou at Zone 1. Craving mee siam or belacan chicken? The Singapore Street Food @ Bay will be set up under the Bay Grandstand this year. Thirsty? Go on a concept bar crawl — there’s the brewery tavern by Tiger Beer, two margarita bars, six Grid bars and the iconic Coates & Ice Cold Beer bar.

Enjoy the fireworks

What’s a national Singapore event without a few pyrotechnic shows, right? Bay Grandstand ticketholders will be treated to fireworks after every Ocean Symphony performance on Friday and Saturday. The big race on Sunday will end with fireworks too, naturally.

The 2013 F1 Singapore Grand Prix is happening from Sept 21-23 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Buy tickets here and use the interactive Circuit Park map as a guide.
