No Malaysian horses for now please, they’re infected: AVA

An outbreak of the highly contagious equine influenza (EI) has hit Malaysian horses, and the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) has enacted total suspension of mighty steeds from across the northern borders.

With Singapore being an EI-free country and all, the AVA has implemented a strict prohibition of Malaysian horses to protect the local horse population as well as preventing a devastation of the horse industry (we do have one I guess).

“AVA advises members of the public who may have come into contact with horses in Malaysia, such as when taking part in horse riding activities or during farm stays, to avoid visiting horse establishments in Singapore,” the authority states in their press release.

In case you want to to know the nitty gritty of EI, it’s a viral disease that includes symptoms such as fever, nasal discharge, dry cough, poor appetite and lethargy in horses, but it’s unlikely to be fatal. And neigh, EI neither infects nor cause diseases in humans.
