When she thought the hot drinks for her two daughters were not prepared fast enough, Ng Bee Lan hit her 31-year-old maid with an aluminum water bottle until she bled.
She continued to hit the back of the Filipino domestic helper’s head while she was doubled over in pain.
There were other incidents of abuse by Ng against Jinky Berondo Cueva — like punching her in the face several times for allegedly damaging a pair of scissors.
For more than one instance of physical abuse, Ng could have been sent to jail for up to three years and charged a $7,500 fine.
Instead the court ordered her to undergo treatment for a period of nine months for her mental condition — which it explained likely contributed to her offenses, reports The Straits Times.
The Institute of Mental Health diagnosed her as having an “emotionally unstable personality disorder and recurring depression”.
On Facebook, the cause-oriented group Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics wrote: “We are glad there is some justice for Jinky Berondo Cueva, who stayed more than two years in our shelter, waiting for the resolution of her case.”
