No end to troubles in sight as Circle Line delays hit fifth consecutive day

It’s no surprise to daily commuters on the Circle Line that the SMRT train service still remains as buggy as it was since the start of the week.

Today marks the fifth consecutive day that the Circle Line has been affected by sporadic loss of signals between trains and stations, causing long delays and slower trains speeds. Delays during peak hours would last longer than 10 minutes, causing massive crowds of frustrated commuters at the line’s underground platforms.

“Due to intermittent signalling issue, please cater for additional travel time on the CCL today” is the mantra that SMRT has been repeating for the past couple of days.

Fixes are ongoing, but SMRT says their hands are tied as the Circle Line runs underground — trackside checks and physical intervention can only take place after operating hours.

They’ve also called upon a team of experts from French train manufacturer Alstom to help with consultation and repairs.

But hey, since the issues have been going on for five days already, might as well make it a week-long affair.
