Sorry to rain on your parade, gossip mongers, but cloud seeding was not conducted the past few days.
Minister for Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan denied rumours being passed around on a messaging app purportedly written by “a friend working in NEA” warning people to avoid the “chemically-induced rain showers” until the F1 weekend is over.
“The Government is constantly doing cloud seeding…but it is not to help the Inonesia fires,” it claimed. “The government is inducing rain to lower the haze impact due to upcoming F1 races.”
Balakrishnan said that is untrue.
“NEA does not engage in cloud seeding and has no plans to do so. Singapore is so small that even if anybody tried to do it, the rain would almost certainly fall outside Singapore. Singaporeans should beware of malicious people spreading false rumours during a period when anxieties are heightened,” he posted on his Facebook page.
