Nila the lion spotted at SEA Games 2015 official launch party

Just like how the spotting of the mythical lion by Sang Nila Utama marked the birth of our nation, the introduction of mascot Nila the lion — complete with a sleek new look — marked the official launch of the 28th SEA Games and 8th ASEAN Para Games, to be held in Singapore in 2015.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam unveiled Mascot Nila — first used at the 2012 National Singapore Games — together with the Games’ official logo and tagline at the launch party held at Gardens by the Bay last Saturday.

The Games tagline “Celebrate the Extraordinary” is about connecting individuals, communities and countries to their dreams.

The logo for the 28th SEA Games represents the meeting of Southeast Asia, and symbolises individual dreams united in the spirit of the games.

Local artists Charlie Lim, Chen Wei Lian, Daphne Khoo and The Great Spy Experiment were also in attendance, some performing original songs composed specially for the SEA Games.

Singapore last hosted the SEA Games in 1993, and the 2015 edition will coincide with our Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The 28th SEA Games will be held from Jun. 5 — 16, while the 8th ASEAN Para Games are to be held in December.
