Lai Qing Xiang, a member of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic cheerleading team Magnum Force, has died after two weeks of being in a coma following his fall on August 30.

19-year-old Lai was training with the team when he was tasked to do a backflip, during which he fell and never regained consciousness.

Said his father Patrick Lai to the Straits Times, “He stood 1.75m tall and weighed 90kg. Why was he asked to do a backward flip?”

Cheerleading activities at Ngee Ann Polytechnic have been suspended in light of investigations.
