A 35-year-old man fell five stories to his death on Sunday afternoon just as shoppers were indulging in retail therapy at Ngee Ann City shopping center.

He fell from the third to the Basement 2 level of the popular Orchard Road mall, according to multiple reports, landing just outside games and toys store ActionCity Plus, shocking customers inside.

Authorities were alerted to the incident at about 2pm, according to ChannelNewsAsia, adding that the man was unconscious when taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and later died from his injuries.

The scene and an area on the third level were then cordoned off by police, the outlet reported, adding that police were investigating the case as an unnatural death.

Photos online showed blood smeared on the floor right next to the retail kiosk. An eyewitness told Today that blood could also be seen oozing from the man’s head.

A staff from ActionCity Plus was one of two women who reportedly attended to the man after he fell. She told Today that she felt a “vibration on the floor” when it happened, and noted that the man was wearing a wedding ring.

Several retail staff near the scene also told local media they heard a loud thud when the man fell.

Eyewitnesses added that man appeared to be alone in the mall before the incident occurred.
