Gear up, ladies and gents, for the war of unlimited mobile data plans has arrived. After years of stingy offerings offered by the big three telcos, smaller companies such as Circles.Life have brought generous mobile data plans back to the mainstream, letting users bury their faces in their smartphones all day long.
Now, a new challenger has entered the landscape of virtual mobile telco. Zero1 is the new rival of Circles.Life and Zero Mobile, and it’s launching with crazy-cheap prices — S$19 a month with no contract required. For that price, you get unlimited data, unlimited incoming calls (200 minutes of free outgoing local talk-time), and unlimited incoming SMS (200 free outgoing local SMSes).
The catch here is that it’s a promotional price for the first 3,000 registrations. Zero1’s standard monthly charge is S$29.99 a month, which is slightly more expensive than Circles.Life’s most basic plan (S$28), but cheaper than Zero Mobile’s (S$40).
But considering that you’ll be getting unlimited mobile data (albeit with full network speeds for up to the first 3GB of data usage only), that’s considered quite a deal. Plus, Zero1 will also roll out free voice roaming, meaning its users will have the ability to make and receive calls for no charge when overseas.
The Straits Times reported that Zero1 aims to sign up 50,000 subscribers within the first year of its operation. Being a virtual network operator, however, the firm doesn’t actually own any physical mobile networks — it’s actually leasing them wholesale from Singtel, like what Zero Mobile is doing.
In any case, the emerging war between new bloods Circles.Life, Zero Mobile, and Zero1 will mean better competition and better deals for customers, and that’s fine by us.
