With 24 new units to be added to the current 40 trains, commuters can look forward to a 60 per cent increase in the passenger capacity on the Circle Line within the year.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the new trains will include “commuter-centric” features such as a Dynamic Route Map Display above each door, more straphangers, and gap fillers to minimise the gap between platform and train, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) yesterday.
The additional trains will see the time between train arrivals during peak hours improve from the current 3.5 minutes to about 2.7 minutes, while off-peak waiting time will be reduced from 7 minutes to no more than 5 minutes, the LTA said.
