New police speed laser cameras to be deployed at 44 accident-prone locations

The Traffic Police have added yet another high-tech tool in their arsenal that should be able to capture speed demons more effectively.

Today they’ve unveiled their new police speed laser cameras that will be stationed at 44 accident-prone and high-risk areas — places that include Nicoll Highway, Upper Bukit Timah Road and Upper Thomson Road.

Though the cameras aren’t able to capture the faces of drivers (yet), they’re still advanced enough to capture images clearly during both day and night, and even detect front and back number plates.

The Traffic Police also revealed in their media conference today that the speeding situation has improved, with a 12.2 percent decrease of speed-related accidents as compared to 2014. More could be done to curb speeding though, considering 48 fatal accidents involving speeding was recorded in 2015 as compared to 43 the previous year.
