ComfortDelGro taxicabs are being outfitted with a talking machine that will alert drivers when a speed or red-light camera is nearby.
The location of the cameras were provided by the Traffic Police to “proactively alert road users to our enforcement cameras and the accident hot spots,” a police spokesperson told Channel NewsAsia. “Taxi drivers are a significant group of road users, hence, they are selected for this initiative.”
The taxi company will finish installing all 6,000 machines by the first quarter of next year. Until then, we exhort drivers to simply follow the basic rules of safe driving — observe the speed limit and don’t beat the red light all the time, not just when there are cameras ahead.
