New Heritage Garden in the Singapore Botanic Gardens features 80 species of plants

Add this to your map the next time you take a stroll around the Singapore Botanic Gardens — its new Heritage Garden, a space that spotlights the social history of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its role in Singapore’s greening journey. Overlooking the Swan Lake, the Heritage Garden sits on the lawn where the first multi-cultural concert, the People’s Variety Show, occurred in 1959.

Displaying a variety of more than 80 types of plants, the garden includes flowers like Gardenias and Bouganvilleas, and trees like Yellow Cow Wood. This reflects the range of species introduced throughout Singapore as part of the Garden City campaign.

Last weekend also marked the start of Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Week, which will go on till Sunday, June 5. You’ll get to enjoy carnivals, bandstand performances, concerts, walking tours and more over the coming weekend. Singapore residents will also get free entry to the National Orchid Garden during this period.
