This new black-and-white boutique hotel takes up six shop houses in Chinatown

Situated in a quieter alleyway of Chinatown, this new boutique hotel spans across six historical shop houses in the space left behind by the former Dragon Court Hotel. With a black-and-white colour scheme that contrasts sharply with the hustle and bustle of life in the vibrant area, the aptly-named Hotel Mono stands out amidst its colourful surroundings.

Within its humble 46-room abode, the modern and chic interior decor retains its heritage appeal with windows unpretentiously styled after the late Baroque era. And true to its name, quite literally everything here is styled in monochrome (Men In Black vibes, anyone?) — perhaps to provide a calming escape from the sounds of tourists haggling with shop owners or booze-fuelled party-goers on weekends.

Essentially, Hotel Mono is all about minimalism and simplicity, plain and simple. So if you’re the type who prefers to staycation at a sleek (and rather affordable, we might add) boutique space, book a weekend of relaxation here. Just don’t expect to find the same kind of top-notch facilities like spas, restaurants and bars here as you would at a chain hotel — but then again, you’ve got an abundance of eateries and watering holes within the area anyway.

Hotel Mono is at 18 Mosque St, 6326-0430. Prices start from $100.
