New Bidadari heritage trail offers one last look at the area before it undergoes development

If the only thing you know about Bidadari is how oversubscribed it was for the last two Build-to-Order projects by the Housing and Development Board, maybe it’s time to find out more — while you still can. The area will give way to upcoming residences, so this is your last chance to stroll through sites like the old cemetery.

The recently-launched Bidadari Heritage Nature Walk is organised by the Geylang Serai Integration and Naturalisation Champions, and takes participants to landmarks like the Bidadari Memorial Garden, Mount Vernon Columbarium and the Gurkha Cantonment. Even birdwatching enthusiasts will have something to see, as the forested former cemetery is home to about 141 species of birds, many of them migratory ones. But take note that this trail won’t be around for long, as multiple stops along the way will soon be cleared for redevelopment.

So sign up for the walk and see these historic sites for yourself before they disappear. The next one takes place on Sunday, and you can find it on the People’s Association website.
