In the aftermath of the tragic accident that took the life of traffic police officer Staff Sergeant Nadzrie Matin on June 1, one netizen has been strongly condemned for gloating over the 29-year-old’s death.
Singled out by Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam on Saturday (June 3), Thomas Chua had posted criticisms of the officer on social media, attacking him because he had allegedly issued Chua a ticket in the past.
Chua has since been arrested… for reportedly shoplifting at a department store along Syed Alwi Road — believed to be Mustafa Centre — on Sunday (June 4) at 5:37am. It’s also come to light that the 39-year-old has committed numerous traffic offences in the past — although he was never given a summons by SSG Nadzrie.
Apparently, when security officers detained Chua for a spot check, they found an unpaid item on him and called the police. He was reportedly out on bail at the time of this most recent arrest, and he’s been under investigation for three separate cases lodged against him since this January.
In response to media queries on whether the police would be investigating Chua on his spiteful comments, a police spokesperson said they would “remain objective and professional” in dealing with Chua, even though his remarks were “hurtful and unfair” to police officers and SSG Nadzrie’s loved ones.
