We know celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain has a soft spot for Singaporean cuisine, but damn we didn’t know he’s kinda obsessed with our local fare.
His ambitious Pier 57 food center in New York is still about a year-and-a-half away from launching, but that didn’t stop Bourdain from already listing the top 10 dishes he badly wants in his market along Hudson River.
In a wish list on The List App, the man shares no reservations about his love for acclaimed dishes from Singapore — four selections alone are from the little red dot.
The local dishes that Bourdain thinks New Yorkers “need and deserve”?
– Hainanese Chicken Rice from Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice
– Geylang claypot rice from 649 Geylang Claypot Rice
– Char Kway Teow from Hill Street Fried Kway Teow
– White pepper crab from JB Ah Meng
Other dishes he lists include regional classics from Hong Kong (Mak’s Noodle, Tim Ho Wan’s dim sum, Joy Hing Roasted Meats), Malaysia (Sarawak laksa) and Vietnam (The Lunch Lady’s bun thai) as well.
We’re getting hungry already.
The Bourdain Market is set to open some time in 2017, with about 100 retail and wholesale food vendors from across the world, and was said to have been inspired by “Singapore-style” hawker centres. Local foodie extraordinaire K F Seetoh has also been enlisted to help plan out Bourdain Market.
