NEA suspends licence of Bishan’s Kim San Leng Food Centre due to rat infestation

Accumulating 16 demerit points over the past year, popular Bishan joint Kim San Leng Food Centre has been ordered to cease operations on Friday, mainly because it failed to settle a little issue called a rat infestation.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) will be suspending the licence of the eating house at Block 511 along Bishan Street 13, a penalty that will require all food stalls to stop operating for a whole day. You can see how much loss in profits they’ll have to bear, especially considering that Friday nights are usually busy times.

But really, it’s their fault for not ensuring cleanliness. Offences include failure to deposit refuse in refuse bins lined with plastic bags and repeated failures to keep the premises free of rat infestation. The main operator of the eating house has been fined a total of $1,100 for the offences as well.

“NEA takes a serious view of these offences and would like to remind food operators to observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times, and to engage only registered food handlers,” they stated. “NEA will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act.”
