National University of Singapore investigating complaints about anti-homosexuality professor

The National University of Singapore is investigating a complaint submitted by two current students and a former student at its school, with regards to Professor Khairudin Aljunied’s anti-homosexuality posts on Facebook. (Channel NewsAsia)

In one post titled Liberal Islam, Lesbianism and the Likes of it (read in full below), the associate professor is seen making recommendations to curb the lesbian movement, describing it as ‘wayward’ and ‘cancerous’.

The offending words — brought up by the three undersigned in the complaint letter — have since been removed from the post.

The three students also raised a later post titled When Liberals Become Oppressive, in which the professor refused to apologise for the first.

In the letter, which can only be viewed by NUS students and alumni on the university website, it was revealed that Professor Khairudin thinks he shouldn’t have to apologise because his remarks are borne out of his religious convictions and that preventing him from articulating his views would mean censoring him.

Here’s a screenshot of the letter, as well as the first post written by Professor Khairudin Aljunied after it was edited.
