In the midst of an investigation into his alleged involvement in a case of bribery, national table tennis player Li Hu has been booted out of the team for insubordination and repeated violation of house rules.
It seems 28-year-old Li Hu has been a bit naughty — the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) has taken particular offence to the fact that he kept bringing a ‘female stranger’ back into the STTA dorm, reports Yahoo! Sports. Despite multiple verbal warnings for flouting the dormitory rules, he repeatedly brought the lady into the dorm late at night, and she’d only leave the next day. Who knows? Maybe Li and the lady were simply having some late-night paddle training.
“The STTA does not tolerate indiscipline. Li Hu’s repeated breaches of the Code of Conduct is a cause of serious concern to the STTA,” commented Lim Soon Hock, Chairman of the disciplinary committee.
“His insubordination is unacceptable and is not tolerated. It was a unanimous decision by the Disciplinary Committee to early terminate Li Hu’s contract for his repeated code of conduct breaches.”
Ranked 58th in the world and with a gold medal at the 2015 Southeast Asia Games, Li is now left without a job in the latest ill-fated occurrence to fall on him. He failed to make it to the Rio Olympics in August before the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) started to bear down on him and his mother — both of whom allegedly attempted to bribe an official from the national sports association.
