National Pokémon master jailed for sex with minor

Gotta catch ’em all, these perverts. A Singaporean who represented the country in last year’s Wold Pokémon Championship in Boston will be facing 11-months in jail (Steel type) for having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

25-year-old Pokémon champion Xavier Chua Cheng Hao pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual penetration of a minor, The Straits Times reports.

The two met in late 2012 at a regional Pokémon trading card competition and kept in touch afterwards on Facebook. The girl was enamoured of him but Chua rejected her (and rightly so) because of their age gap.

A conversation about a sexually graphic material she read in a novel however sparked Leer (reduces Defense) within Chua, and he told her she could call him if she wanted to experience anything of a sexual nature.

Several discussions later, and she agreed to engage in sexual activities with him, which lasted from May 2013 to October 2014. The trysts transpired at multiple places, including Chua’s old house in Sunrise Way in Yio Chu Kang, the public poolside toilet of Cabana Condominium, and a stairwell of a multi-storey carpark in Hougang.

The victim did so in the belief that he would change his mind and have a relationship with her.

Chua was only caught when the parents of the victim’s schoolmate found him at their home. Evidence of their twisted relationship was also uncovered — a naked photo of him on her phone and photos of herself in various states of undress in his.

In court, his lawyer actually used the fact that he was a national Pokémon player in mitigation. Despite his profession, a heavy sentence was passed; he was noted to have no qualms in taking advantage of the victim’s love for him.

Here’s Chua in his natural state:
