National Gallery Singapore open for less than a year and already winning awards

The National Gallery Singapore won a bunch of awards at the annual Singapore Tourism Awards last night. We’re not too surprised — it’s well-deserved, but really, there isn’t much competition when it comes to huge, touristy attractions here. Not when it comes to new ones, anyway.

In less than a year (the museum opened in November last year), the National Gallery managed to sweep up the best attraction experience award away from fellow competitors ArtScience Museum, Gardens by the Bay and Universal Studios Singapore. Although to be fair, it’s a lot newer than the rest so it’s still got that novel factor. And that’s probably why it also took home the breakthrough contribution to tourism award.

Twenty-nine winners received awards at the ceremony, among them Odette for best dining experience, The St Regis Singapore for best hotel experience, CÉ LA VI for best nightspot experience and Halloween Horror Nights 5 for best leisure event.

Four special awards were also doled out to those who contribution immensely to the industry — that included Carolyn Kan, the founder and designer of Carrie K Jewellery, and Rajakumar Chandra, chairman of the Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association.

Now the question remains, will the National Gallery beat SMRT on TripAdvisor’s list of top things to do in Singapore?
