More medals incoming for national swimmers Joseph Schooling and Theresa Goh, who’ll be awarded National Day Awards for their amazing feats at the recent games in Rio.
Schooling — who scored Singapore’s first Olympic gold — will be receiving the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Meritorious Service Medal). Goh will be getting her second National Day award in the form of the Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Star) for winning the bronze medal in the Paralympic Games. The veteran Paralympian was previously awarded the same award in 2008 for her outstanding performances in various para championships in 2006 and 2007.
Both will be receiving their awards from President Tony Tan at the National Day Awards Investiture come Nov 6.
But no news from the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth about National Day Awards for Paralympian Yip Pin Xiu, who scored two gold medals at the Rio Paralympic Games. Already, she holds a Pingat Jasa Gemilang, which was conferred to her in 2008 after she won Singapore’s first Paralympic Gold Medal in Beijing.
Nonetheless, they’re all winners! Just don’t tell this morally handicapped dude, who recently went on a rant about why Paralympians don’t deserve the same recognition as able-bodied athletes.
