The mystery behind the case of the 18 abandoned dogs has been solved

Eighteen dogs were abandoned last week, and a total of 30 were rescued by animal welfare societies Voices For Animals and Ocean Rescue Group by the end of the week. But no one knew who was behind the island-wide “dumping” of canines or why the person resorted to such actions — until now.

Apparently, all 30 pedigree dogs belonged to the owner of a pet grooming school, reported The Straits Times. He had kept them there for trainees to practise their grooming skills on, until two weeks ago, when the authorities informed him that the pooches had to go, as the neighbours were filing complaints.

Desperate to find homes for the animals, the man left 18 of them in places where he thought they would be found and taken in. But after witnessing the uproar caused by the abandoning of the dogs, he turned in the remaining 12 to Derrick Tan of VFA. He has since donated $500 each to VFA and Ocean Rescue Group.

It appears that he had good intentions, but went around doing things the wrong way.

In light of all this, Tan said that people should request for help from animal welfare groups or the authorities in such cases, as domesticated dogs would have a harder time surviving on the streets.
