A motorist who had car troubles while driving along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) is now looking for a big rig driver who selflessly looked out for his safety on the road shoulder.

Ariff Yusoff wrote on Facebook about an incident last Tuesday night which saw a semi-trailer truck driver using his vehicle to help warn incoming motorists from getting into a potential accident along the expressway. According to Ariff, he accidentally drove over a wooden block that had fallen on the second lane of the expressway, which caused a burst tire.

With sparks flying from the burst tire, the man managed to slow down and pulled up safely at the road shoulder. Phone calls were made, and Ariff’s brother-in-law and a couple of friends came to his rescue with a spare tire.

But it was in the midst of changing the tire that a semi-trailer truck pulled up behind Ariff’s car. The truck driver had noticed the commotion while passing by and made a U-turn back to the scene to offer his assistance by way of traffic control — he parked the big rig near the road shoulder and flipped on the bright blinkers so that incoming traffic could avoid the area from afar.

Eventually, the tire was changed and everyone departed safely after a passing auxiliary police officer advised them to move off from the road shoulder. In the haste to depart, Ariff forgot to ask for the truck driver’s name and is now appealing to members of the public to help identify him so he could properly thank him.
