Prep your tissues, boys and girls, this Facebook anecdote is a heartbreaking one. But don’t worry, there’s a happy ending.
Early last month, a motorcyclist was riding along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) on his way home when he came across an orange figure in the middle of the road — he soon realised it was a lone elderly man in slippers. No other motorist stopped by to see what was wrong — it was past midnight, after all.
So the motorcyclist, Jalil Ramla, stopped and asked the old uncle what was going on. Turns out, the 80-year-old man wasn’t sure where he was — he had forgotten his own address.
“My heart broke,” wrote Jalil in a Facebook post. “He walked all the way from God knows where. I asked for his wallet and (luckily) enough there’s an address inside.”
Fortunately, Jalil had an extra helmet on him, and the elderly man was safely sent back home. The motorcyclist believed that a higher power played a part in the incident — it just so happened that he felt the need to bring a spare helmet with him that day, and he also felt he should head home late at night, even though he ended work at 9pm.
Divine intervention or pure coincidence, it doesn’t change the fact that Jalil did good — just like the other motorcyclist who helped out another stranded elderly man in a similar rescue incident in June. Bless up to the man, and all future motorists who don’t hesitate in helping another in need on the roads.
