In a bid to create more family-friendly environments in neighbourhood shopping centres, the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) will provide more funding for malls to implement family-friendly initiatives.
The FamilyMatters@Business Grant currently provides financial incentives to help businesses adopt practices that cater to the needs of families, especially those with young children, elderly and disabled family members. Since its launch last year, over 50 businesses have received funding under the scheme.
The newly enhanced plan will grant neighbourhood malls up to 70 per cent of actual costs, covering infrastructure, amenities and services that offer safety, convenience and fun to families. The MSF will also provide service training for mall managers and frontline staff to help them serve families better.
“Family-friendly businesses will not only attract more customers, they contribute to the overall sense of family-togetherness that we want to nurture in Singapore,” Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development Low Yen Ling remarks. “This is a chance for the shops in the heartlands to improve the quality of their business by improving the quality of time families spend together in their malls.”
