More dormitories and recreational activities for foreign workers

Foreign workers can look forward to more dormitories and recreational activities in the near future as more steps are taken to improve their welfare.

According to Channel NewsAsia, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that a sizable amount of dormitories will be built in the next two to three years so as to better house foreign workers.

He also added that there should be fair treatment towards foreign workers living in the city-state and there will not be tolerance for their ill or unfair treatment.

In addition, the Migrant Workers’ Centre has revealed they will help organise more variety shows and sporting events catered to foreign workers.

As of 2013, the Migrant Workers’ Centre is catering to the needs of more than seven percent of the 1.3 million workers present in the city-state.

Five recreation centres and dormitories saw about 50,000 workers celebrating International Migrants Day (Dec. 18) on Dec. 15 with performances from Bangladesh and India.
