Pulau Ubin, next victim of gentrification?

Pulau Ubin — the last kampung village in Singapore, and a quick getaway for city folk looking to soak in some nature.

Largely undeveloped, the Ministry of National Development (MND) has made it open season for Singaporeans to submit ideas of what they think the island should to be.

While speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (May 28), MND’s Minister of State Desmond Lee announced the launch of the Ubin Project microsite and called on the public for suggestions.

Questions posed on the website include: “what ideas do you have to enhance the island’s sense of discovery and adventure?”, “do you have suggestions that can help to revive the kampong life and its activities?” and “do you see Ubin as a green living educational laboratory?”
