Mind The Gap: LTA to install gap fillers on new trains following repeated slipping cases

People keep slipping into that little gap in between MRT trains and platforms, and the Land Transport Authority (LTA)  seems to have come up with a solution.

The authority announced yesterday that the new trains on the North-East Line (NEL) and the Circle Line will be installed with “gap fillers” which is said to reduce the space between trains and platforms, TODAY reports.

Troubles with the little gap seem to be common over the past few months, including one at Jurong East MRT station, another at Hougang MRT station and the most recent one at Boon Keng MRT station. The two latter incidents caused significant delay in train services in the early morning rush hour.

LTA has also noted that the size of the gaps vary for different lines. The new trains in the Downtown line have already been installed with gap fillers, with reduce the gap to only 36mm. The North-South East-West line have gaps of 75mm.

Various safety measure have also been put in place at stations such as in-train announcements and signs to remind commuters to mind the gap.
