Presidential candidate George Goh’s campaign to become Singapore’s next successor seems to be the talk of the town, but one individual contesting has been keeping it on the down low.
Seng Soon Kia, 71 (although according to some sources he is 72), shares a bit about himself with reporters in a candid interview after showing up on Tuesday to register his eligibility to be the next president.
“Why are you here?” a reporter asked, to which Seng cooly replied with: “I want to be a president lor.”

Seng said he is now retired and was a former “technical teacher” who did “woodwork” for 17 years from 1971 in several secondary schools such as Nanyang Girls’ High School.
He also boldly claimed that he was the president of Singapore in 1951 for a year even though he said he was born a year before. A quick check online shows that the first president – Yusof Ishak – came to power in 1965.
“But you were born in 1952?” the reporter said.
“Yes, correct,” Seng replied.
When asked if he will be able to meet the set criteria to become the president, he said, “I read about it in the newspapers, I should be able to qualify.”
Seng has told other reporters that he is running for president because he has a list of complaints that he’d like to bring up and change.
From the comments of the video which got reposted to several platforms, most did not take him seriously.
