MDA disputes report that Eric Khoo’s In The Room has been approved for commercial release

Looks like Eric Khoo’s erotic drama won’t be making it pass the censorship board after all. The Media Development Authority (MDA) has stated that they haven’t classified In the Room, despite co-distributors Encore Films making the announcement that it’ll be commercially released here.

After much censorship contention on the film’s explicit depictions of sex, we’ve finally managed to release the movie…

Yesterday, it was reported that the flick has been rated R21 and will be screened in cinemas on Feb 25. However, MDA themselves stated that they’ve yet to receive the International Version of the film for classification, TODAY reports. The film was screened here last year in the Singapore International Film Festival, but was barred from commercial release over two scenes that  did not pass the guidelines for sexual content.

Already, it was highly unlikely that In The Room will ever see a commercial release in Singapore, especially since Khoo himself does not want to release it in an edited form. But without MDA’s classification, the steamy flick can’t be screened to the public.

Encore Films has not commented on the issue.
