From out of nowhere and with no provocation whatsoever, a 10-storey tall tree came crashing down onto a nearby block in Pasir Ris, smashing windows and hitting a boy during the horticultural mayhem.
As if it just felt tired and wanted to lie down for a bit, the tree simply uprooted by itself and fell on Block 243 along Pasir Ris Street 21 around 6pm yesterday, despite the calm weather. The Straits Times reports that windows of three units were damaged during the unexpected tree fall.

11-year-old Sheik Sheqal Muhd Fezal had been getting a drink from the balcony on the second-floor unit of his grandmother’s flat when he was struck by one of the tree’s branches. Though there wasn’t any visible wounds, he was nevertheless conveyed to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for checks.
Other residents of the block were lucky to not have been near the windows when the incident took place, especially the ones living in third and fourth storey units. The fallen tree however brought the population of red ants into their houses.

The Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council deployed workers to help clear up the debris caused by the tree fall, cleaning up broken glass and branches inside the affected units as well as terminating the pesky red ants. Workers also helped lift branches and chopped up the tree to clear the road.
Insurance claims will also be made by the Town Council to pay for window replacements for the affected homes. Horticulture experts noted that the tree probably fell due to heavy rainfall and strong winds that transpired prior to the disarray. To prevent further accidents, they’re considering killing other similar trees in the area just in case.
