Mass deaths of fish at Pandan Reservoir due to insufficient oxygen

Authorities have removed hundreds of dead fish from Pandan Reservoir so far in the past few days, but the process has yet to come to a halt.

Despite the clean-up, tests show the water quality was unaffected. PUB, the national water agency, believes the mass deaths were a likely result of the reservoir’s low levels of dissolved oxygen.

“This could be caused by a combination of factors such as dry weather, algae growth and decomposing organic matter taking up the dissolved oxygen,” a PUB spokesman told The Straits Times
