A brawl involving a maskless man and a guard just doing his job was making the rounds this morning after being called out by Singapore’s security community.

The unidentified man was caught on surveillance cameras shoving and throwing punches at security guard Sures Perumal Monday night at around 10:20pm at the Giant Hypermart in Tampines Retail Park.

“SAS strongly condemns this unnecessarily senseless and violent act of abuse against SO Sures, who was merely carrying out his duties. A police report has been made,” the Security Association Singapore, or SAS, wrote yesterday.

A police report has been made.

The association said the attacker hurled vulgarities at Sures after becoming “unhappy” that the guard told him to put on a mask and went inside the building. A minute later, he emerged to shove and punch Sures, who did not retaliate. More shouting and punches were thrown until members of the public intervened to stop the fight.

Sures suffered bruises, SAS said.

“This is yet another sickening incident of abuse against a security officer who was merely carrying out his duties. […] The police attended to the matter at the scene and we will leave it to the authorities to investigate and take the appropriate action,” President Raj Joshua Thomas said.
