All-round good guy Tan Koon Tat is back at it again. The 58-year-old carpenter and Marsiling resident might have produced his best work yet with a dazzling installation for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations in his neighborhood.

The man is known for putting up DIY displays and decorations in a small corner of his carpark at Block 179 along Woodlands Street 13 every traditional holiday, be it Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali, National Day or Christmas. This Hari Raya, he probably outdid himself with an impressive installation that includes a miniature lit-up sculpture of a mosque, a neon coconut tree, rows upon rows of colorful LED lights hanging from sheltered pathways, and even music playing from hidden speakers.

In a Channel NewsAsia feature about Tan, his commitment to the craft is simply driven by making his fellow residents happy. His set of decors can reach up to $5,000, and that’s not including the electricity bills — power for the installations is plugged directly from his own home.
