Mandatory psychiatric treatment slapped on lady who sat on, beat and killed pet terrier

The Singapore Permanent Resident who killed her family’s pet dog in a moment of mental instability has since been sentenced to a two-year mandatory treatment order for animal cruelty.

Suffering from Brief Psychotic Disorder, 25-year-old Wang Jun had sat on the terrier, beat its neck and covered its mouth. The dog was released only when Wang realised it was foaming at the mouth, but it was too late — poor Junior died from the attack. It was a bid to stop it from barking, as Wang claimed hearing aeroplanes in the sky that would drop bombs on her if Junior continued to bark.

The order will require Wang to undergo psychiatric treatment for 24 months. Under the Animals and Birds Act, she could have been fined up to $15,000 and/or jailed up to 18 months for animal cruelty.
