The latest development in the ongoing case of a man who allegedly raped and molested his own mother sees the accused claiming that a confession was forced out of him through physical intimidation by the cops.
The 33-year-old declared in court that he gave two statements to investigators while under threat. He also claimed that two police officers beat him during the course of investigations, Channel NewsAsia reports.
The man was accused of raping and molesting his mother in the wee hours of Oct 4, 2013 in his family’s one-bedroom flat. His 56-year-old mother was asleep when the alleged rape was carried out despite pleas for him to stop. The distraught victim fled the house later on to seek refuge in her daughter-in-law’s house and recorded a call she made to her son about the incident.
The defence however asserts that the man was framed by his mother and step-father as they wanted him out of the house. They also argued that investigators found no medical or DNA evidence of the alleged rape.
The accused had also challenged the admissibility of his two statements, offering a different version of events to the police and in court. Stating that he didn’t trust the police, he contended that he was “just waiting for the correct time to tell the judge”.
The trial continues today.
