Usually, when you drive along the expressway, the standard repertoire of bugs and bird shit will make their way onto your windscreen — but definitely not red plastic stools.

A 32-year-old man had to be conveyed to hospital early Monday morning when little pieces of glass pierced his throat after a chair fell right on top of his car, cracking its windscreen on the driver’s side.

According to his passenger’s account to The Straits Times, the incident occured just after midnight on May 8, right before the car entered the Chin Swee tunnel along the Central Expressway (CTE). It remains a mystery how the stool managed to drop from above — the passenger believes that it might have fallen from a lorry, or perhaps it was deliberately thrown from an overhead bridge.

The damage was serious enough to fracture the windscreen. The passenger suffered whiplash, while the driver experienced neck pain — apparently he “screamed and swallowed little pieces of glass”, according to the passenger.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted that night, and the man was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The passenger was hospitalized as well, and discharged on Tuesday.

Police are currently looking into the case of rash act along CTE near the Clemenceau Exit.
